This is the first birthday that I get to spend with Caesar. Love this little man! He has brought so much joy and fluff into my life. I wanted to make sure to spoil him with treats, cake and toys. He was such a happy boy when he chomped into that big pup cake. We don't know exactly when Caesar was born but his dad found him on Valentine's Day many 11 years ago on the side of the road. He was a tiny little newborn pup who was covered in dirt and had worms. His dad thinks that he either escaped from a breeder or was left on the side of the road to die. There was another pup with him, probably a brother or sister but he ran away before he could be saved. Caesar has brought his dad nothing but joy and companionship through some very difficult times. He has brought me so many cuddles and kisses. We are fortunate to have him and look forward to many more years with this sweet baby boy.

Elitist Dog Clubs
Is the Westminster Kennel Club show the equivalent to womyn's beauty pageants? OOPS did I say beauty? I meant to say TALENT. Dogs from far and wide converged in New York this past weekend to partake in a show of purebred dogs. These dogs are separated into various categories and judged by their gait, demeanor and appearance. I have never actually sat through an entire show because it bores me but this most recent event got my attention because the Westminster Kennel Club decided to drop Pedigree because they wanted to focus on purebred dogs as opposed to dogs who are mixed breed. Pedigree has had commercials showing support for rescue dogs and mixed breed dogs and apparently their standards were not quite high enough for this elite club. Although this show is meant for pure bred dogs it's disheartening to see how unimportant these rescue dogs are to the Kennel Club and since they have been around for well over a hundred years; you would think that they would have evolved by now.
I compare this show to the modern day beauty pageant because women of some shapes and same size are paraded on a stage in evening gowns and swim wear while people clap for them. What are the judges looking for? The walk must be elegant and graceful and the smile must appear genuine. Heaven forbid a lock of hair falls out of place and there better not be an ounce of fat on that body! The dogs are groomed for this business and so are these young women.
