For my sister

My sister has had to experience quite a lot in her 21 years of life. Many of her close friends have died, she has been plagued by many odd illnesses and there has been a general black cloud above her head. Yesterday her best friend died. He was a brilliant and generous person who probably experienced more in his short life (25 years) than most of us have. My sister asked me why this had to happen to him. Why did such a wonderful person have to suffer through stage four cancer, fall in love and get married (only to be cheated on), lose his brother in a freak accident (and have the settlement money stolen by his devious wife), witness the birth of his beautiful twins (only to find out that they were not his at all) and finally go into a painless remission (only to have a stroke due to three unknown brain tumors). I could not answer her question because I can't think of any reason that could explain such a tragedy. A 25 year old who fought so hard to live finally lost the battle.

He did not have a long life but from what I understand he had a rich life. Even though the woman he adored was a traitor from the start, he was head over heels in love. Not everyone can say that they have ever experienced something like that. True love. Perhaps her feelings were a farce but his were not. He lived in that dream as he lived in the nightmare of various surgeries and cancer treatments. He was not mediocre as so many of us are.

Perhaps the only thing that I can say to my sister is that he had more zest for life than most people I know, he had more disasters in life than any person I know, and he knew the value of every moment more than I could ever know. Don't ask why. Life is not black and white. Not all stories have a happy ending. Just feel fortunate that this rare gem, this pure positive energy touched your life, no matter how brief it was.

TV Remote Fetish

I woke up to the horrible sound of my husband's alarm clock. The thing had been going off for an hour and he kept pushing the snooze button and falling back asleep. This is pretty much an everyday thing. But this morning there was an added sound. Something I could not put my finger on right away so I ventured into the living room to see what the dogs were doing. As my eyes adjusted I saw them huddled together with the remote in Simba's mouth. UNBELIEVABLE! This is the third remote that they have destroyed. The first two cost over $200! I'm not sure why our boys love the remote so much but it has become a very costly toy.

Buddha is High

Buddha had surgery and could hardly walk to the car so we carried him. He kept whining because he did not understand that he was high off of the narcotics. Needless to say, he made it but I had no choice but to videotape his reaction.

Trick or Treat

Event after event the boys were a hit this year! For our Halloween party they were dressed as my merry men because I was Robin Hood while the fiance was the Sheriff of Nottingham. For the Petsmart contest Simba was a firefighter while Buddha was the headless horseman's horse. Simba won third prize! He does LOVE posing for pictures and he is very competitive.
