The Husky Code

I've heard a lot of stories about how high strung Huskies can be and how some of them are extremely prey driven. My Buddha bear is very relaxed and aims to please. He loves to eat and will come wake me with gentle kisses but if that does not work he will jump on the bed and move closer until I get up. Upon eating his delectable food he will lick his bowl and his brother's bowl several times and then come looking for me. As soon as he sees his bed, couch or other fluffy object he dives straight in and puts his head between the cushions. It's always at full speed! He proceeds in this fashion for a few minutes and then he lays on his back while stretching and making random sounds. Buddha is not a typical Husky because he actually does not enjoy howling or speaking. I can get him to speak once in a while but he prefers to be silent.

He is entirely a gentle soul and if he upsets me in anyway he gets visibly sad and his tail ever so slowly goes down.

There are too many things that make Buddha unique but one of the most endearing attributes is that he will sit at my feet or next to me while I am eating. Since I am a vegetarian, most of my food is not to his liking. But he patiently sits and at the end of the meal I will give him a little piece of whatever it is that I am eating. Typically, he is not a fan of veggies but he kindly takes a sniff moves his face away in disgust but then proceeds to slowly take the food from me. I like to think that he does not want to upset me because while I watch him he pretends to chew and as soon as he can manage it...he spits it out somewhere else.

What can I say? Buddha is the coolest, kindest Husky I know!

Yucky

Being a vegetarian and having to serve raw meat to my dogs is not easy! I have take the meat out of the packaging and then make sure to fully cut up and mash up the meat. It feels gooey and gross and I have to ignore what I am doing. Simba and Buddha still go nuts for the food and can hardly contain themselves when I put it out for them. There are still many weeks left in this experiment so only time will tell if this is permanent.

On another RANDOM note...strangers tend to be kinder to other strangers when they see that they have a dog. When I am alone and I say hello to a stranger I don't always get a hello back. In fact, some people just look away or act as though it is odd for me to speak to them. When I am with my boys it is a different story. People become more approachable (unless they are scared of dogs) and there are more smiles. I wonder why that is?

A Buddha birthday!

Then my Buddha baby turned 1! I decided not to throw a doggy party this time around because cleaning up after that many dogs was not exactly fun. They always say that the first child is the most spoiled but I promised myself that I would buy Buddha the same type of cake that I got for Simba. Buddha baby was intent on eating the whole cake and was far more interested in all the attention that he received on his birthday. He is truly a happy husky!
